We are able to connect with other people best when we ourselves are relaxed and calm. If someone is in a hyper vigilant state or on guard, their energy is turned toward self protection rather than connection, and a fight, flight, or freeze state can make people disengage or get into arguments rather than connect in a loving way.
Now it’s important to assess that relationships are objectively safe for us to be in, and to pick people to engage with who are safe, caring, and trustworthy people. We can learn how to access and trust our intuition around connecting with and partnering with people who are safe.
Yet sometimes people have trouble feeling safe even though they know that objectively they are in no danger. For example, when people have fearful or disorganized attachment style, they may have trouble accessing a felt sense of safety. They may also have difficulty soothing themselves, because their attachment system did not learn early on how to internalize a feeling of safety and calm from an attachment figure.
People can spend a lot of energy trying to change their environment to make themselves feel safe, and sometimes that feeling of safety needs to come from ourselves, in addition to choosing our environments and relational partners with care. On a deep level, you probably already know that it is possible to feel safe, because the feeling of safety comes from within.
This audio will guide you through the process of comfortably strengthening your own internal sense of safety, so that you can access an inner place of calm, and better trust in yourself and listen to your own intuition when it comes to relationships.
