Many people with anxious attachment struggle with feeling that relationships are unstable and uncertain, because at an early age, their attachment system didn’t receive the predictability and reliability from a caregiver that it needed to know that they would get their needs met consistently. So they seek reassurance that they are safe and loved, and that other people aren’t going anywhere. This can result in being overly focused on others and a sense of “losing oneself” in a relationship, or even in a conversation, when we get so focused on someone else that we lose touch with ourselves or even forget about our own needs.
